Plot Feeds is back

Friday, August 22, 2008 at 8:13 AM

And ... we're back. You can once again view blogs and plot feeds on Google Finance charts. Access to blogs provides a greater range of information than conventional news alone; plotting a particular feed lets you view its information in the context of a stock's performance.

Click the 'Blogs' tab from any company's summary page, and you'll see the blogosphere's coverage of that company plotted along the chart. Or, if you want to plot specific blogs on the chart -- blogs you know, blogs you search for, or blogs you write -- click the 'Feeds' tab. Search for a blog or type its URL, and the blog posts will be plotted on the company's chart, making it easy for you to discover the blogs that provide high-quality analysis and breaking news.

Try this feature out and let us know what you think. Stay tuned for more as we continue to enhance Google Finance.

I know it's not what you're aiming at but have you any plans/thoughts to adapt this as an off-line application and allow real-time (as in from real time feeds/distribution platform) for an enterprise?

It would be great if this were more streaming, and with intraday charts, like this web application.

Why don´t you buy those guys? I would love to see the real-time and news in this application

Why do your charts not include the option to plot a security's "total return" (including reinvested interest/dividends) vs other securities?

The finance home page does not auto update Dow Jones, etc.. ??

Does anyone use Google Finance? I checked out the webpage and it's pretty sparse. It needs a lot more work if you are aiming to compete with Yahoo Finance. But then again, why would you bother recreating the wheel? Just buyout Yahoo.

What is the version of Adobe Flash needed to support Google Finance charts on IE? It works in Chrome and firefox for me, but not in IE.

Hi,

I have a question for you guys concerning the "Blogs" section of company news coverage at Google Finance.

How does Google Finance select relevant blog entries for each company/stock ticker symbol? Are the blog entries manually selected, or is there some kind of pool from which blog posts are automatically added by RSS feed?

Also, do blog entries have to include a specific ticker listing code? For example, should a story concerning Apple Inc. contain the phrase "Nasdaq:AAPL" in order to be included, or is company name and shorthand ticker symbol ("AAPL") enough to highlight the key phrase?

I ask because I'm a little confused as to why some articles and blog posts on specific companies seem to get added to the "Blogs" section, while others get left out. Would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
David

I think I have that version installed and works with most flash based pages except Google Finance.

You haven't posted in a long time and I think we're all starting to miss you!

Is this blog currently active? The financial world is going crazy, yet the Google Finance Blog is completely devoid of any life what-so-ever. I thought a blog should be updated frequently. Am I missing something?

This functionality is great but doesn't really work. Many times it plain doesn't respond. Bugs?
